mki got a reaction from MikeTucker in How Quality Score Impacts Ad Rank
I realize this isn't completely relevant but there's a decent list of negative keywords at http://www.paidinsights.com/400-negative-keywords/
It also shows you how to setup a shared library to make this easier.
There's a spreadsheet over at blackhatppc.co.uk as well, which I don't recommend black hat PPC, they just have a nice spreadsheet that's free.
This only matters if you do broad matching, but if you know anything about how people search, people search tons of weird variations and you may or may not want your ad to appear on those searches.
For example, lets pretend I sell survival knives in an online store exclusively. Lets say I've determined that I want to target the broad keyword "Survival Knife", well I definitely don't want my ad to show on "Survival Knife Course" and probably not "Survival Knife Florida" .
Just wanted to mention it since it's another Adwords mistake that I know occurs frequently.

No idea but I find Amazon's new arrivals very helpful.
    Google : Amazon.com $niche new arrivals
Then bookmark the pages as they're a pain in the ass to find.
It's an excellent source for ideas if you're doing Azon stuff.
    Edit: Check prime obviously.

mki got a reaction from Mike Friedman in The "Google Sandbox" Patent
Mystery revealed. It's called "Rank Transition Function."
From experience, new sites and new content get the "Initially Inverse Response Transition" and the dampened response transition seems more common on older content/sites.
Note that these functions apply after forcing the page into the index using inspect URL -> Request index in the Google Search Console.
    https://patents.google.com/patent/US8924380B1/en
So, there's no sandbox, there's just that.
Length of time is 70 days or more.
Note: This is old, but I didn't know about it and I don't think most people do.

mki got a reaction from Chase26 in CBD oil is legit.
I walked into a health food store to pick up a vitamin that I take and I noticed that they were selling CBD oil, which I thought was illegal in my state.
My biggest concern was the price and I was highly skeptical that it might be snake oil.
I would also note that I am very sensitive to drugs and can tell when an aspirin kicks in. I can just feel it.
I just tried it about 5 minutes ago and it's absolutely legit.
It doesn't make you high at all but I can definitely feel a distinct but mild calming effect and I can feel the glands in my face relaxing.
I also have pain from using a computer my entire adult life and that pain is barely noticeable.
I was also working out earlier today and had some muscle soreness, that pain is gone now.
Note that I kept the oil under my tongue for about 60 seconds.
Edit: Not much more time went by and my mood is noticeable better now. Definitely legit...
Edit2: The visual after effects that I have that are caused by computer vision syndrome are almost gone. This stuff is fucking amazing...
Edit3: I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TRYING THIS... IT FEELS LIKE ALL OF THE POSITIVE EFFECTS OF SMOKING MARIJUANA WITH ZERO HIGH...

MLMs target religious people because they are members of a church, which means a ready source of "distributors".
I made it 17 seconds into the video and my brain started screaming. Sorry.
Decades ago, i had it in my mind that these fool deserved whatever they got, because they were fools. But I was wrong. A dog doesn't deserve to be fed poison just because it doesn't know any better. We have to be responsible for what we teach others....what we get them involved in.
These people are guppies, being led by sharks. Diseased sharks. They think they are there to learn..They are food.

An employee of mine told me about this great MLM he was in. He showed me the payouts, the levels, everything.  He told me that he re-invested everything back into the MLM, and he was going to get a second mortgage to go "all in".
It took a few minutes to add it up, but I mentioned to him that they were paying out $1.25 in commissions for every $1 they took in. Virtually the definition of Ponzi Scheme. For some reason, this didn't register with him. So when the company closed their doors a few months later....he lost his home. (his wife left him)
Ponzi schemes work because greed is a powerful impulse, and it shuts down the reasoning faculties. It's why people still send money for "Nigeria" windfalls, they used to spend money on chain letters, and buy lottery tickets. And it's why some MLM people think they are making money, when they are really just spending money.

My idea was to turn one of those cash for survey sites into an apparently illegal lottery.
It seemed like a really good idea while I was doing my daily exercise. Oh well.
The way I had it structured, I thought it would have counted as a sweepstakes, nope, definitely not legal.
There was an MLM angle too, seemed good to me.
So it was an MLM, lottery/casino, ponzi scheme, involving incentivized offers...
Shrug. To me, it seemed like all of the "building blocks for success" were there.
I was mentally visualizing the "I spent my paycheck buying scratch off tickets" type people spending all day filling out surveys and spamming their Facebook page for referrals for chances to "win big."

Pity, I was interested in investing a considerable amount of inheritance money coming to me shortly. But, since you came clean I am going with my original idea of taking it to a casino and putting it all on red on a roulette table.

I've had ideas like that, I suppose.
Don't do it. You'll end up hating everyone that participates, because they are fools. And the weight of your guilt for taking advantage of people will become overbearing.
These ideas are fun to think about, because it means you are clever. But if you have any conscience at all, you'll soon be miserable.

mki got a reaction from Chase26 in If content is king, show me the proof.
If you target keywords that are easy enough with a decent piece of content, if the rest of the competition for that topic is terrible, once Google gets some decent click data, your content will rank higher and higher over time. Links are not required.
I can prove this; I was doing a case study on ranking with out links and it got screwed up because the site got links (the most jacked up problem I've ever had...)
Suggesting that it's one thing or another is a "guru tactic."
Pick topics that don't have too much competition, create a piece of content that fulfills the searcher's intent, and put the content on a site that has links. This all works together, it doesn't really work any other way.
At this very moment in time I'm working exclusively with paid traffic. I temporarily gave up on SEO around November for the most part. I do affiliate marketing so I have the mobility to market whatever I want. Lately the plan has been, find an affiliate who's spending a ton of money on PPC, pay somebody to create a similar landing page (modifying stuff I already have), set the campaign up, if it looks decent, start split testing, if it's horrible, trash can the campaign. If I want 100k clicks today, it wouldn't be financially wise, but I can press a button and get it. I'm really sick of waiting 2-6+ months to see if something works. Over time I'm moving more and more away from SEO. A few years ago my attitude was "well if the traffic is cheap enough, I'll take it." I tried explaining this on reddit and I ended up leaving all the marketing/seo subreddits I subscribe to. To be fair, that's always what has worked in that space, but people always seem to think that things should work a certain way, and from experience, things work any way they work. It does feel like regression though, this is what I was doing back in the Google Adwords heyday when most of the affiliates got slapped.
So yeah there's your "SEO guru story." I quit SEO and I'm making more money and honestly I'm having more fun too. Way less time analyzing data in tools, I can get results in 24 hours, no mining 1,000s of emails and begging for links. I haven't needed to do this, but if I screw up bad, I could always build a bunch comment/quora links into a landing page to make back any lost ad spend on a failed campaign.
Also, since Google ads merged Double click, Google Ads is also a DSP, so there's ~10 billion impressions a day available through Google Ads between the two networks. So between ads in Google searches, youtube ads, gmail ads, GDN, and DSP, one could probably buy half a billion clicks a day.
When at the end of the day, all that matters is a number, just remember that nobody is arguing about what works in r/ppc.
