  1. This isn't a post about whether nor not telemarketing works. I'm here to say it's alive and well. While there are hundreds (thousands?) of books/courses/etc. that promise you can build your biz without making cold calls (and it's possible), I'm here to say....why would you? I've worked with a number of call centers as a trainer, and the number of ways you can use the phone to build a business is staggering. The one call center I'm working with now? It's blowing my mind how many different projects they are using telemarketers for. An effective script is a must, of course. The ones I write are short and sweet: about 2 sentences, usually. That's all you need. (If there's any interest, then they'll ask for more info. If not, thank them and move on.) Maybe cold calling isn't your cup of tea, and that's fine. But if you need more business and you don't have a big marketing budget, you've already got a great marketing tool in your possession right now. Pick up your phone and start dialing.
